In this week’s Gospel Jesus teaches us to build not bigger barns when you have a big harvest.  What should you do instead?  Well, you’ll have to listen to Servant Maria’s talk this week as she invites St. Francis of Assisi, Father Joseph Rickaby, S.J., Msgr Fulton J. Sheen and Pope Pius XI to share with us their thoughts on keeping eternity in mind as we use our earthly goods.  This lesson is very important in the midst of today’s materialistic world.  You can be a witness of the life to come, and lead others to the Kingdom of God by the way you use God’s gifts…or you can lose that Kingdom for all eternity.

  1. Joe says:

Your webinar on building bigger barns reminded me of a story told in our church by a traveling missionary. He said there was a very wealthy man who had been giving lectures on the goodness of charitable giving. During one lecture, he told the audience he attributed all his success to a moment in childhood when a priest visited his church and made an impassioned plea for help with his foreign mission. Moved to tears by the missionary and his words, the young boy reached into his pocket to contribute, but suddenly realized he only had one silver dollar. It was all the money he had in the world. In a moment of compassion and surrender, he put the silver dollar into the collection plate. “And that giving of all that I had,” said the millionaire, “is what I credit with making me the wealthy man I am today.” The audience pondered his statement in the silence of the lecture hall for a moment until an elderly woman spoke up and said, “I dare you to do it again!” – The strength of our faith might be worthy of reevaluation from time to time.
